Hezbollah Praises Mauritania’s Decision to Cut Ties with Israel

da Al Manar. 24/03/2010 Hezbollah praised on Wednesday the Mauritanian decision to break off diplomatic relations with the Zionist entity and close the Israeli embassy in Nouakchott.
“We highly value and appreciate the Mauritanian decision to break off diplomatic relations with the Zionist entity and close the Israeli embassy in Nouakchott,” Hezbollah Arab Relations official Sheikh Hasan Ezzeddine said in a telegram he sent to Mauritania’s Foreign Minister Naha Mint Hamdi Ould Mouknass.

Mouknass announced late Saturday that her country’s break of diplomatic relations with Israel over last year’s assault on the Gaza Strip was complete and definitive. “Let everyone here know, Mauritania has broken its diplomatic relations with the state of Israel in a complete and definitive way,” Mouknass told a gathering in Nouakchott.

Sheikh Ezzeddine said that the Mauritanian move deserves respect and appreciation, noting that it was expected from such an original Muslim country. He congratulated Mauritania’s people and government for the move that confirms Mauritania’s commitment to the Arab nation’s strategic causes, especially in what concerns the Palestinian cause.

Sheikh Ezzeddine expressed hope that such a courageous and brave decision be an incentive for other Arab and Islamic states to reconsider their relations with the Israeli enemy and suspend them in harmony with the people’s aspirations.

Mauritania, one of only three Arab League states ever to have had diplomatic relations with Israel, suspended ties with the zionist state in January 2009 because of its bloody assault on the Gaza Strip. Nouakchott ordered the Israeli embassy closed and sent its staff to occupied Palestine, leaving Egypt and Jordan as the only Arab states with diplomatic relations with Israel.
